The Time To Vote On TERM LIMITS is NOW!The Concerned Citizens Council of Big Spring/Howard County is pleased to announce our latest campaign to put control of city government back in the hands of the people it belongs to…YOU!Our new petition drive is geared towards giving the citizens the opportunity to vote on amending the city charter to introduce a system of term limits on city council members. In short, what the amendment spells out is that no city council member may run for more than two consecutive terms. In other words, a council member could be elected twice, but would then need to sit out at least a year before running again. There is no limit to the total number of times that a council member can seek or hold office, only that they can't hold office for more than two terms in a row.We at the Concerned Citizens Council believe that term limits are an excellent tool for a properly run citizen government. We feel that these limits will encourage more participation in city government and will greatly improve the quality of our elected officials by sending council members back out into the real world of their constituents for a time before they can run for office again. While some "politicians" may argue against term limits, if you watch closely you might just find that they are the ones who think they have something to lose by being limited. In the long run though, we believe that more participation in the process by our citizens is a very good thing. We believe that the citizens of Big Spring should have the chance to decide for ourselves whether we want term limits for the city council. We hope that you feel the same. If so, please contact us to sign the petition or print out a copy for yourself and mail it back to us. If you have friends that agree that the citizens should have a choice, please have them sign the petition too!
